Be a part of the democratic process and work as a poll worker for the Democratic Party

Successful elections depend on the services of poll workers who work at the polling places on Election Day. In order to effectively assist voters, the Hamilton County Democratic Party staffs each of Hamilton County's polling places with 2 pollworkers: 1 Judge and 1 Clerk.

The Hamilton County Democratic Party is always looking for new pollworkers. One of our goals is to broaden the pool of pollworkers to include diversity in age, ethnicity and bilingual skills. We are looking for people who are dedicated, efficient, patient and friendly!

Qualifications

To apply for the pollworker position you must meet the following qualifications:

  • Be a registered voter of Hamilton County
  • You cannot be a candidate or related to an opposed candidate
  • Be 18 years old by Election Day*

Poll Worker Hours
All pollworkers arrive at the polling place at 5:00 a.m. on Election Day. The day ends at approximately 7:00 p.m. when the polls have been officially closed, the voting process has ended, and all votes have been counted and certified. There will be meal breaks during the day.
 
Poll Worker Pay
Judge: 
$100.00 for performing duties on Election Day
$20.00 for meals*

Clerk: 
$95.00 for performing duties on Election Day 
$20.00 for meals*

* By default, you will not receive $20.00 and the Inspector will provide your food.  However, if you prefer to bring your own food and be paid the additional $20.00, you must notify the Inspector you will be providing your own food ahead of time.
 
Poll Worker Duties
Judge:
  • Assists the Inspector in making decisions on matters that come before the precinct election board. 
  • Provides instructions to voters when asked about the ballot or voting procedures. 
  • May assist voters with impairments.  
  • May challenge voters.  
  • Assists in the canvass of the votes.  
  • Assists the Inspector in setting up polling place and returning precinct results to government center on election night. 
Clerk:
  • The primary function of the clerks is record keeping and ballot control. 
  • Assists voters in signing the poll list.   
  • In a Primary Election, the clerks must ensure the voter is given the ballot that corresponds with the voter's stated political party preference.  
  • Assists in the canvass of the votes.
